Warehouse Assistant

The Warehouse Assistant supports Feeding Hands Pantry’s daily warehouse operations, helping ensure the accurate receipt, storage, tracking, and distribution of food donations. Working under the direction of the Warehouse Manager, this role plays a critical part in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient environment for volunteers and guests. This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented, physically active, and committed to the mission of serving neighbors in need.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations

  • Receive, sort, and shelve food donations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse zones.
  • Prepare staging areas for deliveries and distribution.
  • Assist with gleaning and donation pickups, including loading/unloading.
  • Operate or assist with equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklift if certified).
  • Support volunteers on-site with task guidance and safety practices.


Data & Process Management

  • Track product weights and assist with inventory logging in spreadsheets or tracking tools.
  • Maintain accurate records for gleaning pickups, incoming/outgoing food, and equipment use.
  • Assist in updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Contribute to improving warehouse flow through labeling, signage, and process refinements.
  • Support administrative needs such as supply tracking and reporting data to the Warehouse Manager.


Vehicle Monitoring & Logistics

  • Perform routine checks on Feeding Hands vehicles (mileage, fuel, cleanliness, and condition).
  • Log vehicle usage and flag upcoming maintenance or inspection needs.
  • Help coordinate logistics for donation pickups and satellite support.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL and equipment experience a plus.
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and working on your feet throughout the shift.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with experience using spreadsheets
  • Strong communicator with a collaborative, team-based approach.
  • Experience in warehouse, logistics, or food distribution is preferred.
Expectations

Expected hours of work: Up to 20 hrs/week; Must receive approval to work over 25 hrs/week. Schedule coordinated with the Warehouse Manager based on operational needs.

This is a physically active, in-person position at the Hillsborough warehouse. Includes lifting, warehouse equipment use, and occasional local driving. The role works closely with volunteers and staff in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.
